This is a great drink to help ANYONE unwind after a stressful day! It also helps greatly with sore muscles! I like to drink this after practicing back bend variations since I usually am pretty sore afterwards. This drink helps to relax the muscles and relieve pain but can also help them to relax for better stretching.
The main herb in this drink is kava kava. It has a pretty intense taste. It is quite bitter and tends to numb the entire mouth. It’s really fun to drink if you can handle the taste! This recipe helps to cut that crazy flavor that so many dislike. If you follow this recipe you will be just fine!
Kavalactones, the main constituent in kava that causes relaxation can NOT be used warmed or heated, as they are destroyed. Kavalactones are also fat soluble so the base must be done in an almond or, even better, coconut milk.
This recipe is for 2-4 servings depending how much you would like to relax!
Traditionally, kava is not sipped, it is chugged! However I tend to let mine last at least 15-20 minutes.
-4 heaping T Kava Kava Powder (I buy mine from Kona Kava. They are truly the best.)
-4c Coconut Milk
-1t Coconut Oil
-5 Drops Liquid Stevia
-2.5T Cacao Powder
-1 Frozen Banana
-2T Mucuna (if using extract use 1/2t)
Blend all in high powered blender and let sit for 5-10 minutes before consuming. This will allow the fats and kavalactones to combine.
*please do not drive after consuming kava kava
